La Pagua, located at 5425 Johnston St in Lafayette, LA, embodies the vibrant flavors of authentic Mexican cuisine. This restaurant has garnered attention for its welcoming atmosphere and accommodating service, making it a delightful experience for diners. Patrons rave about the menu's offerings, such as the expertly prepared steak chichimanga, which receives high marks for its perfect cooking and harmonious blend of flavors. The papusas also stand out, especially the pork and cheese variation paired with coleslaw and ranchero sauce, evoking nostalgia for home-cooked meals. Complementing the dishes, the traditional chips and salsa are praised for their freshness and taste, enhancing the overall dining experience. While many customers appreciate the genuine atmosphere and friendly staff, some suggest that slight adjustments to pricing could make La Pagua even more competitive. However, the commitment to authenticity is palpable, with reviews asserting that this isn't your average Tex-Mex spot. As a food reviewer, I wholeheartedly recommend La Pagua for anyone seeking a genuine taste of Mexico in Lafayette. The blend of delightful dishes and the warmth of service create an experience that is hard to forget.

Atmosphere was nice. Friendly staff. Prices could be a little lower to compete with other area Mexican restaurants. We enjoyed our food.

The service was great. The food came out fairly quick and was delicious. I had the papusas, one with pork and cheese and one with bean and cheese, comes with coleslaw and ranchero sauce, it was the best thing I've had at any mexican restaurant. I swear someone's Mexican grandma is back there cooking. Highly recommend.

Food was Great and authentic. The wait time for food was long but worth it. The portions were very big! My party of 3 did the meal deal for 2 and we still had food left over. Very reasonable prices and staff was fast. The roasted whole onions were amazing ...
